Bike Route Improvements for a Critical Corridor
17th St. Committee Meeting - September 17th!
Join our newly re-energized 17th St. Committee as we work on bringing a much-needed cross-town bike lane to the City. We will need to build a strong coalition of support for this exciting project to happen and need your help! Come to our next meeting on Wednesday September 17th, from 6:30-8pm. Our main goal for this meeting is to review promotional materials for this campaign - fliers, handouts, posters, etc. Members have been hard at work drafting these, and we'll need your input to finalize them and move forward. Join us to make sure 17th becomes one of San Francisco's newest bike lanes! Email Neal for more information.

Overview
The Mission district has seen a great number of improvements for bicycles over the last few years, and with those changes, there has been a rapid increase of bicycling in the neighborhood. Harrison and Valencia streets are two of the popular north-south bike lanes, however, there currently are not safe east-west bike lanes to get bicyclists through the heart of the Mission. Bike improvements along the 16th/17th St. corridor would provide connection with the six bike routes including the existing bike lanes on the east end of 16th St.
Two Design Proposals
17th St. has it's challenges, but should result in significant improvements on an important East-West Bicycle Route. Stretching from Corbett St. in the Castro to Kansas St. in Potrero Hill, this project will add bike lanes on the whole stretch. The preferred design option calls for parking removal on the stretch between Harrison and Kansas, and lane narrowing on the western portion. Train track crossings present some issues, but can be solved by shifting the bike. For more detailed information, visit the MTA's description below:
