SFBC Members Blow Up!
In early October 2004, dozens of SFBC members became bunnies and bubbles on bikes, as part of some very silly, suited cycling!
Inspired by a love for bikes, city cruising, costumes, silliness + things that inflate, New York City artist Jessica Findley created the "Aeolian Ride," a mass participatory event with a sense of humor. Jessica, a 2004 Black Rock Arts Foundation Grant Recipient, handmade 50 white suits from ripstop nylon that are designed to inflate while biking at low speeds. The resulting bubbles on bikes thrills those riding and delights those watching, while transforming the landscape into a playground of windfilled shapes.
SFBC members got an early invite to participate in the ride.
The puffy suits lends the mass of bicyclists a contour akin to a child's fairy tale, the softness of cloud rendered critters, or the ethereal quality of a sail caught wind. The Aeolian Ride fosters interaction between the individual and their environment while uniting both riders and spectators in playful, exciting energy.
