Bikes on BART
Bikes Allowed on BART All Day!
Hooray! After years of advocacy from the SF Bicycle Coalition and East Bay Bicycle Coalition, the BART Board of Directors voted unanimously on October 24, 2013 to remove the bike blackout, opening up all day access for bikes on BART!
This decision comes after three successful pilots held in 2013: Fridays in August, a week-long March pilot and a four-month pilot that began July 1. After the third pilot, a BART survey showed that 77% of riders were in support of eliminating the bike blackout period.
Lifting the bike blackout means that people on both sides of the Bay can more easily, economically and environmentally travel around the Bay Area. Removing the bike ban allows people to reduce their commute times, leave their cars at home and spend more time with their families. Thanks to hundreds of people who joined us in this campaign to lift the bike blackout!
The Basics: Bringing your bike on BART
