HEARING TODAY TO STOP BIKE/PEDESTRIAN BRIDGE TOLLS
SFBC staff are heading to Sacramento on July 12th to speak in favor of Assembly Bill (AB) 748, which would prohibit tolls for bicyclists and pedestrians on highways and bridges in the State, at the State Senate Transportation & Housing committee. If you oppose tolls on cyclists and pedestrians on the Golden Gate Bridge, or the future Bay Bridge, or elsewhere around the state, please send a fax TODAY to key State Senators, asking them to support AB 748. It's fast, easy, and free on our simple-to-use Instant Activist page: http://www.sfbike.org/ggb
WEDNESDAY NIGHT BI-WEEKLY VOLUNTEER NITE
Calling all SFBC member volunteers, this Wednesday, July 13th is our bi-weekly volunteer night at the SFBC HQ. We start at 5pm and wrap up by 8pm. Help us keep a well-oiled office by giving the SFBC a hand in doing our bi-weekly mailings! We'll provide snacks and dinner (of your choice!). Everyone welcome. New members highly encouraged to participate. 5-8pm at SFBC HQ 995 Market St, Suite 1550 (@ 6th) Bring your bike upstairs! Questions? Contact Jodie at 431-BIKE x 305 or email@example.com
FIND IT, FIX IT -- HELP PATCH UP THE STREETS (AND MORE)
Ever been riding around and notice that a bike lane stripe is faded away? Of that an official Bike Route sign is turned the wrong way? These are quick-and-simple fixes that can and should be fixed quickly and simply, if they're reported! If you see a spot improvement in SF, please email us at firstname.lastname@example.org, and we'll forward your suggestions onto the Department of Parking & Traffic's Bike Program staff.
For pothole patch-ups, send an email to DPW at email@example.com, or phone their 28-CLEAN line (282-5326) to report potholes, broken glass, abandoned mattresses, or just about any other spill, break, mess, or tear in the social fabric -- DPW will route the request to their own crews or whichever agency is responsible for fixing what you've found.
Finally, if you encounter a Muni bus whose front-mounted bike rack isn't working right, tell the operator it's broken and ask them to "write it up." They're supposed to report anything that is broken with the bus when they return to the yard, and they may not be aware that there is damage to the rack. And of course, whenever you use a bus-front bike rack be sure to sit up where you can keep a sharp eye on your two-wheeled friend. Ride on!

SWEET LITTLE BIKE LANE SPROUTS IN GG PARK
Maybe it was all that late rainfall we've been getting, or maybe it was elves, but who cares -- the city's newest bike lane has sprouted on the uphill (southbound) direction of Arguello as it enters Golden Gate Park, giving cyclists a little bike space to pedal up into the park. Next up is a mild-mannered but pioneering "contra-flow" bike lane on Conservatory Drive, complementing the new Arguello mini-lane and allowing southbound cyclists to legally turn left at the top of that hill, against the prevailing one-way direction of traffic and short-cutting the route to eastern destinations. Watch for this novel couplet to be complete sometime this summer . . .
