I want to ride my bicycle. I want to ride it where I like.
TIMBUK2 PRESENTS WINTERFEST 2005!
Mark your calendar for the most biking fun you'll have indoors all year!
Sunday night, December 4 is SFBC's 10th Annual Winterfest! It's a Velo-Wonderland, with bike gear, art from local artists, music, FREE food and drink, and all your favorite SFBC friends and characters. The best part is that this fundraiser helps keep our bicycle advocacy going through the cold and wet winter months!
Special highlights include our newly designed t-shirts, DIY crafts made by members like you, the Haiku Hut, dancing in the Fossil Fool mobile party room, the BikeBlender, and more! To volunteer, sign up at www.sfbike.org/vol_sign_up. Contact Lisa Ruth Elliott at firstname.lastname@example.org with any other questions.
ALEMANY BOULEVARD BIKE LANES -- HERE THEY COME!
Great news for the Citywide Bike Network and Outer Mission/Excelsior cyclists in particular: last week Supervisor Gerardo Sandoval introduced legislation to implement bike lanes on the two miles of Alemany Boulvard from Lyell Street (Glen Park) to Sagamore Street (near Brotherhood Way), a BIG gap closure and one of the Top 20 Network Projects identified during the Bike Plan Update process. We expect the legislation to come to committee in the next couple of weeks -- we'll let you know when the date's set!
If you're not already on our Alemany mailing list, contact Andy Thornley (email@example.com) and we'll sign you up!
CESAR CHAVEZ STREET CALMING -- C.C. PUEDE! -- 11/15 MEETING
The campaign to calm Cesar Chavez Street (including proper bike lanes to civilize the street and close a Top 20 Network gap) is well underway, and the petitioning process and neighborhood outreach has begun -- this is a perfect time to get involved! The committee's next meeting will be tomorrow, 11/15 at 6:30 pm, at the Bernal Gateway Apartments, 3101 Mission at Cesar Chavez. For more information, please contact Fran Taylor at firstname.lastname@example.org.
MARKET STREETSIDE OUTREACH, WED 11/16 -- JOIN US!
Bike to Work Day may still be 6 months away, but we're bringing the BTWD excitement to commuters this Wednesday, November 16th at Market & 12th -- and we still need volunteers to give us a hand! Hand out coffee and bagels to bicyclists heading downtown, and give them a pat on the back for taking the no pollute commute. Volunteers needed from 7-9am.
If you're available to help, please contact email@example.com.
LAST CHANCE FOR BIKE FILM FAME -- CONTEST DEADLINE THIS WEEK!
How 'bout a deadline as inspiration? Put the finishing touches on your 3 to 5 minute comic bike film, burn it onto a DVD, and get it down to the SFBC office! Submission deadline is Tuesday, November 15th for our film competition of which the top entries will be featured at Winterfest 2005 on December 4th. Please submit all entries in DVD format to Lisa Ruth Elliott at the SFBC office: 995 Market St, Suite 1550, SF 94103 (at 6th St.) For additional info please call Scott Durcanin at 415-577-3691.
USF WELLNESS FAIR -- SFBC FOLKS NEEDED THIS WEDNESDAY
USF wants to bring better bike facilities to campus and let their community know about the benefits of bicycling -- can you help? They've invited the SFBC to the USF Wellness Fair, this Wednesday, Nov. 16th, and we're looking for members to give us a hand at the SFBC table. Chat with the USF community about bicycling for everyday transportation! If you have some time between 10am-2pm on Wednesday, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org.
