Winterfest: Sunday, December 3rd — A party not to miss!
If you have never been to Winterfest, you don't know what you are missing! Over 800 of your closest biking friends and neighbors under one roof enjoying an evening together sipping New Belgium brew and scoring great deals on bikes, gear, cute crafts and fabulous local art all to keep the SFBC rolling throughout the year. The art auction is guaranteed to be a winner this year — over 60 of the Bay Area's hottest artists under one roof.
Music by the Squirrelly String Band and DJ TOPH ONE, New Belgium Brew, tasty treats, kid's corner, live and silent auction, and 800 of your closest biking friends all at the SOMArts Gallery (934 Brannan St @ 8th) on Sunday, December 3rd from 6-10:30pm. Dress warmly, it tends to be chilly at SOMArts — and heck, it is winter.
Bikes! Bikes! Bikes! We have something for everyone. Perhaps a cruiser Schwinn Tango Tandem? What about a new Gary Fisher Monona city bike? Or Giant Bowery single speed? In need of a slick new Specialized road bike? Get hooked on a Cannondale Jekyll Mountain Bike? Is there a junior in your life that needs a high-end Orbea road bike? Or perhaps you need a Burley trailer or trail-a-bike for the tike in your life? This is only a portion of the fabulous inventory of bikes that will be auctioned off at the SFBC's 11th Annual Winterfest Bike and Art Auction. We guarantee there is something for everyone! Bring your friends, neighbors, and that special someone wants or needs a new ride. View the entire silent and live auction catalogue today! We have a wonderful variety of goodies, gear, crafts, art and entertainment.
Live from Amsterdam, Eric Staller's Conference Bike will be hitting the streets after just finishing a cross-country tour. Take a spin with your friends on this 7-person bike at Winterfest! There are a few volunteer spots to fulfill. Give us a hand and sign up today! 100% of the proceeds from Winterfest benefit your favorite bike coalition and go directly to making San Francisco a better biking city.
We are 6,000 Strong
The San Francisco Bicycle Coalition is now 6,000 members strong! We are thrilled to hit this landmark, making the San Francisco Bicycle Coalition the largest bicycle advocacy organization per capita in the country. There is certainly strength in numbers; each new member amplifies our voice for a model cycling city for our two-wheelers! We have gained 1,000 members since November 2006, and in 2007, we plan to grow by a monumental 25%. Each of our 6,000 members will be instrumental in helping to reach that goal. Get us off to an early start by sharing the gift of the San Francisco Bicycle Coalition with your loved ones this holiday season with a Gift Membership and celebrate our 6,000th member with us this Sunday at Winterfest, the best party of the year!
Have friends or loved ones that aren't members? Bring them to Winterfest and show them what the SFBC is all about! New members who sign up at the door receive free entry into the party.
Winterfest is going green this year!
You'll see something completely new at Winterfest this year (besides the Schwinn Tandem for auction): compost bins! In addition to our usual recycling bins, green bins will be provided for food scraps, paper plates and cool compostable cups and cutlery. Special thanks to the SFBC volunteers who are making this happen. If you're holding a big event sometime soon and want to work towards the goal of zero-waste, we found SF Environment to be a valuable resource for learning how. They've got a special section about green events on their website and folks in their recycling department are happy to answer questions and point out more resources. Keep on cycling and recycling into the holidays.
Winterfest is still in need of some volunteers to help us really make this a green event. Sign up today!
Better biking at City College meeting
Want bike lanes on Phelan Ave? They're in the works, but with current opposition, they need YOU to help make them happen. What about Ocean Avenue bike lanes? Did you know that student riders are organizing an on-campus bike kitchen — can you help? Join student, faculty, and neighborhood bike advocates for a meeting to discuss what's happening for bikes at City College's Ocean Campus and the ways we can make the area better for bikes. San Francisco's institutions of higher learning have catered to the single-occupancy automobile for too long! It's time to organize for solutions with two wheels. The meeting will be held at 12 Noon, Wednesday, Dec. 6th on the lower level of the Student Union (next to the City Cafe), 50 Phelan Ave. Email Rachel with questions or to get involved.
Tube Times Folding Party
This Wednesday is our Tube Times Folding Party 5-8pm! There is no better way to spend your Wednesday evening than with your lovely San Francisco Bicycle Coalition folding, labeling, stapling and shipping our hot-off-the-press December-January Tube Times with the friendliest fellow cyclists San Francisco has to offer. Bring your bike up with you to the 15th floor of 995 Market St. and enjoy dinner on us, good company, and the satisfaction of making a difference in San Francisco. Contact Kate at (415) 431-BIKE x303 or just show up.
Little bike lost
It doesn't happen often, but occasionally the valet bike parking program ends up with a bike. This one was locked insecurely to our perimeter and we had to take it home to keep it from being stolen. I'd like to reunite it with its owner. If you lost a bike locked up outside VeloSwap, or one of your friends did, email a note with a full description to email@example.com.
