OK, race fans, it's Winterfest! The biggest bike bash of the year!

Winterfest Bike Party and Auction This Sunday!

We'll see you this Sunday at Winterfest! Celebrate SF cycling with 1000 of your closest biking friends and a portfolio of New Belgium brew while scoring great deals on bikes, gear, crafts and local artwork -- all to keep the SFBC rolling through the upcoming year. And this year -- in addition to tasty treats, a kid's korner, live and silent auctions and a Dahon folder raffle -- entertainment will be provided by the awesome Extra Action Marching Band!

Road bikes! City cruisers! Fixies! All kinds of bikes will be auctioned off at Winterfest! There is something for everyone -- your friends, neighbors, or that special someone who wants a new ride. View the entire silent and live auction catalogue here!

Art! Art! Art! Our annual art auction features 64 of the Bay Area's hottest artists ("Husky Boys", right, by Max Victor Stein) all under one roof! Preview all the great artwork here!

Where? When? SOMArts Gallery (934 Brannan St at 8th), Sunday, December 2nd. Doors open at 6pm, last beer poured at 10pm.

  • Complimentary valet bike parking starts at 5:30pm
  • Buy it and bring it home! Please plan to carry your purchases home.

It's YOUR party! All proceeds from Winterfest benefit your favorite bike advocacy organization (us!) working everyday to make San Francisco a better biking city.

Holloway Traffic Calming Meeting Thursday

Do you pedal on the south side? To SFSU or City College? Holloway Avenue is a key east/west route through the southern side of the city and a major corridor for college students trying to get to school car-free.

It's also slated in the city's Bike Plan for Bicycle Boulevard treatments -- traffic calming that prioritizes bikes, pedestrians, and slow moving vehicles over high auto speeds. This Thursday, an MTA Engineer will meet with neighbors and stakeholders to review the draft traffic calming/transportation plan for Holloway and Garfield. Please come out for this meeting -- MTA needs to hear your voice to make this key bike route safe, dignified and delightful.

When: Thursday, November 29, 7pm
Where: OMI Senior Center, 1948 Ocean Ave. at Fairfield Way

To learn more about traffic calming, visit MTA's Traffic Calming Overview. If you can't make the meeting, but are interested in advocating for a bicycle and pedestrian friendly Holloway, email Rachel.

Cargo Way Bicycle Tour

Cargo Way is a little-known industrial street in the city's southeast which is currently undergoing a planning process to transform it into a great street for walking and cycling -- and a key link in the city's Blue Greenway and the Bay Trail, a 500-mile regional pedestrian and bicycle trail around SF Bay. Join a bicycle tour this Saturday and learn more.

When: Dec. 1, 10:30 am- 12:30 pm
Where: Meet at the corner of Cesar Chavez and Illinois Streets).

Participants will hear about plans for Illinois Street bicycle lanes, explore the new Illinois St. bridge across Islais Creek and hear about ideas for a separated bicycle path on Cargo Way and a new entrance to Heron's Head Park. Members of the Cargo Way design team and city staff will be there, and participants can offer their ideas for Cargo Way, the design of the trail and of key intersections along the route. The discussion will continue afterwards over an optional lunch at the Ramp. For more information about the Cargo Way plan, see the Redevelopment Agency's web site.
