Keep the Better Market Street Trials moving forward
Better Market Street Trials Begin Today
The first wave of Better Market Street Trials began today, with eastbound drivers being directed off of Market Street at both 8th and 6th Streets. We anticipate that there will be some initial confusion as drivers become aware of the change -- thanks for your patience through this adjustment period. Remember, this change is one of many stepping stones toward a Market Street that will be calmer, safer and more inviting for pedestrians and bicyclists and transit users. Additional trial improvements will hit the ground in October, including art in vacant store fronts and pedestrian plazas and greening.
Gas-Free Fridays Get Rolling This Friday
All October long the SF Bicycle Coalition will be celebrating Gas-Free Fridays. Help us promote this simple idea and together we can encourage more people to substitute one short car trip with a bicycle trip just one day a week.
This Friday, October 2nd, pedal to 12th and Market and "fuel up" with coffee and snacks to get your day rolling from 8-10am. See the "Fuel Up" station locations for all the Gas-Free Fridays. Want to help spread the goodwill at Gas-Free Fridays? Email Tessa.
Tour de Fat Raises $38,000
Tour de Fat rolled through town this past Saturday and was the ballyhoo of bikes and beer it promised to be. Thousands of
people came out enjoyed the day celebrating bikes, listening to an amazing line-up of entertainment and enjoying New Belgium Brewery's
tasty portfolio of beer. A big FAT thank you to our dear friends at New Belgium Brewery for making the whole kit and caboodle possible -- together we raised over $38,000 for the SF Bicycle Coalition
and the Bay Area Ridge Trail Council! See photos of the day

SF Bicycle Coalition Treehouse Talk: How to Make a Rec Ride
There are a million good ideas for a group bike ride, whether it's a tour of tea shops, native plants, cemeteries, labor history, merry-go-rounds or Vertigo scenes. You've probably got a couple of ride ideas kicking around in your head ('60s rock band houses, anyone?), Tuesday, October 6 at 6:30 at the SF Bicycle Coalition Treehouse (995 Market St, Ste 1550) is your chance to learn how to make a Rec Ride and spread the fun, it's easy. We'll talk through the tips and tricks and review some simple recipes for rocking rec rides. Free for SFBC members, $5 for non-members; bring your bike upstairs.
Biking Fun and Family Memories
The SF Bicycle Coalition's third annual Family Day is Oct. 11. Make Family Day a yearly tradition and join other families like yours as we enjoy a car-free Sunday in Golden Gate Park. We'll host special bike-y activities like a bike scavenger hunt, a family biking showcase and a family bike parade, as well as our popular Freedom From Training Wheels effort to get the little ones on two wheels and the mini-city Bike Road-eo to teach safe riding and rules of the road. Want to volunteer on Family Day? Email Kate to help out.
Creating Healthy Ways to Get to School
Walk to School Day and the official celebration and launch of the San Francisco's new Safe Routes to School Program are quickly approaching -- October 7th. The SF Bicycle Coalition is proud to be a partner in this program which will help more children to walk and ride their bicycles to school.
Thanks for Three Great Bike-In Movies
A huge thank you to the Good Hotel and everyone who made the
SF Bicycle Coalition's Bike-In Movie series such a fabulous success. A record-breaking 400+ people showed up for our final screening of the Triplets of Belleville and helped us
transform an ordinary parking lot into a magical movie theater. Thanks to Rickshaw Bagworks and B. Spoke Tailor for providing fabulous raffle prizes. Attendees were treated to array of
delicious culinary choices thanks to San Francisco's greatest street food vendors. Our friendly and ever-helpful bike valets parked almost 500 bicycles during the series! Thanks to
everyone who came out and made the Bike-In Movies a huge success! See photos of the Bike-In Movie Theater here.
