Market Street Trials: Considering a Move to Tenth Street
The first results of the Better Market Street trials' transportation component show that: Muni is saving nearly a minute in the morning rush hour between Sixth and Eighth Streets (wow!), and you're probably experiencing a more car-lite Market Street as private cars are down significantly from 6th to 8th streets, and there has been relatively low impact to SOMA streets. Read the SF Examiner story here.

Thanks to 1,300 SF Bike Coalition Volunteers
This year, the San Francisco Bicycle Coalition had an amazine 1,300 volunteers giving their time and energy to help make San Francisco a better place for us to ride and live. From stuffing envelopes to valet parking bicycles to doing outreach to distributing the Tube Times -- and that only scratches the surface of all that SF Bicycle Coalition volunteers do -- our amazing volunteers are always stepping up for better biking. Thank you, dear volunteers, for everything you do! You keep our work moving forward in so many ways, and we simply couldn't do it without you.
Speak up for Funding for Bay Bridge Pathway
Back in May, we let you know that the Bay Area Toll Authority (the toll-bridge-overseeing personality of the Metropolitan Transportation Commission) had approved the preparation of a Project Study Report for a bike-pedestrian-maintenance pathway on the West Span (Yerba Buena Island to San Francisco) of the Bay Bridge, which will move the pathway onto the big list of regional transportation projects eligible for funding. The Bay Area Toll Authority is now considering a toll increase on the seven state-owned Bay Area toll bridges--a funding opportunity for the pathway! Please take a moment now to ask the the Bay Area Toll Authority to dedicate part of this increase to completing the West Span pedestrian and bike pathway project.

Dreams on Wheels Brings Copenhagen to SF
Copenhagen is not only the capital of Denmark -- it may well be the world capital of bicycle transportation, with people of all ages and sizes pedaling everywhere for every reason, every day of the year. If you find yourself daydreaming about Copenhagen (aided by Mikael Colville-Andersen's blogs, Copenhagenize.com and Copenhagen Cycle Chic), you'll want to head down to SF City Hall and spend some quality time with Dreams on Wheels, a travelling exhibit on Danish cycling culture and Denmark's commitment to sustainability via urban design that promotes active transportation. Coinciding with the United Nations International Climate Conference taking place December 3-14 in Copenhagen, Dreams on Wheels merges urban cycling culture, design intelligence and environmental consciousness and features case studies on how cycling has affected Danish culture. Pedal down to City Hall and catch it while you can!
New Free iPhone App for SF Bicyclists
Download the new free CycleTracks iPhone application and you could win a $50 iTunes gift card. The app, created by the SF County Transportation Authority, keeps track of bicycling speed, distance, elevation and maps out your ride using GPS on your iPhone. But the real kick comes in the ability to share your data (anonymously) with the SFCTA for use in better city planning for bicycling. It's a win-win. Read more about CycleTracks on SF Streetsblog.
Help Spread the Word About Muni Changes
Major service changes will impact more than half of Muni's bus routes and the N Judah on weekends beginning Sat., Dec. 5, 2009. Changes include both service reductions and service enhancements. See www.sfmta.com for details or call "311" for multilingual assistance.
Video: Let's Get Visible
From our friends up in Vancouver, this fun musical number sings the importance of getting visible at night. The SF Bicycle Coalition wants you to be seen and safe on the streets in these dark winter months. Not only is it smart, it's the law -- California requires cyclists to have a front white light and rear red reflector or red light when riding in the dark. Use your SF Bike Coalition membership card for discounts on bike lights at bike shops all over town.
