Proposed Golden Gate Bridge Bicycle Speed Limit on Hold
Many people were surprised to learn about a proposal last week by the Golden Gate Bridge District to institute a 10 mile per hour speed limit on bicycle traffic, with violators receiving a $100 fine (closer to $200 with fees). The SF Bicycle Coalition staff was even more startled to see the proposal agendized for a vote, without ever having shared the proposal or underlying study with the SF Bicycle Coalition, Marin County Bicycle Coalition, bike rental companies, or other stakeholders.
Video: Bike to School Day 2011Check out this great video of dozens of kids and their families riding to Peabody Elementary School for Bike to School Day earlier this month. Principal Willem Vroegh estimates that about 1/3 of students at the Inner Richmond school rode their bikes to school and Supervisor Eric Mar even stopped by to show his support for Bike to School Day and healthy living.
Do you have any Bike to School Day stories or photos? Email them to email@example.com. If you have photos posted online, tag them with "sfbtsd" and "2011 Bike to School Day" and email Jason the link. Thanks again to everyone who helped make Bike to School Day such a success and special thanks to SF Bicycle Coalition member Rick Baraff for producing this video.
