"We used to hear a car crash about once a week — now they are very rare. We used to have empty storefronts, now all the stores are filled. There is no doubt that it used to feel dangerous crossing the street. That feeling is gone.

Last Day to Bike the Vote
Today is the final day to help the SF Bicycle Coalition decide which candidates to endorse for the upcoming election in November. Voters will select San Francisco's Supervisors and BART Board -- critical decisions in so many ways for the future of everyday bicycling in SF.
Let us know which of these candidates you think answered this question best, and take a look at all of the different races then cast your vote and let us know who you think should receive the SF Bicycle Coalition's important endorsement.

BART Pilot Ends -- for Now?
A huge thank you to the many volunteers who helped with outreach during the BART blackout lift pilot! And thanks to BART leadership and staff for stewarding this pilot. Last Friday was the last day of the pilot. We are now working with BART, the East Bay Bicycle Coalition and others to evaluate the findings of the pilot in the hopes of moving toward a permanent lifting of the blackout period -- soon. In the meantime, please help this campaign by spreading the word that the blackout period is back in effect while BART staff evaluates the results and feedback from its operations staff. If you haven't already, please take the pilot survey here.
Video: Cycling in the Netherlands in the 1950s
We usually feature videos about new bike projects and exciting advancements, but every once in a while a historic bike film comes our way that we just have to pass on. Check out this great vintage bike film from the Netherlands in the 1950s. We just loved seeing all the family biking footage, and the imaginative ways parents carried their little ones by bike (including a rocket-shaped trailer in the first few minutes of the video). For current best practices and tips on family biking today, check out our free Family Biking Guide, complete with a gear guide for pedaling parents.
