Market Street
This stretch of Market was recently chosen to be part of the top 20 projects for serious, bicycle-friendly re-design in the Bike Plan Update.
Market Street is, hands down, the highest volume bicycle thoroughfare in San Francisco. Seven bike routes feed onto Market and while bike lanes do exist on some segments, large gaps occur near intersections due to varying street and sidewalk widths. The Bike Plan Update proposed modifications to Upper Market Street...![]()
Market and Octavia
Market and Octavia has long been a problem for many cyclists in the city. At the end of 2007, the city installed a permanent concrete island to prevent motorists from making the illegal right turn. While this has deterred many drivers and reduced instances of this dangerous turn, more can still be done. ![]()
14th Street
Currently, the stretch of 14th Street from Market to Dolores Street is configured as a two-way, three lane street with parking on both sides of the road.
As part of the City's Bike Plan Update, design concepts have been developed to extend the existing 14th Street bike lane from Dolores to Market Street. A heavily used bike lane already exists on 14th Street from Folsom to Dolores, but it does not fully connect to Market Street and the Wiggle route in the Lower Haight, leaving a short but significant gap in the City's Bike Network. We're almost here on this one- so please contact Sup. Dufty and support 14th St. bike lanes!![]()
17th Streets
The Mission district has seen a great number of improvements for bicycles over the last few years, and with those changes, there has been a rapid increase of bicycling in the neighborhood. Harrison and Valencia streets are two of the popular north-south bike lanes, however, there currently are not safe east-west bike lanes to get bicyclists through the heart of the Mission. Bike improvements along the 17th St. corridor would provide connection with the six bike routes including the existing bike lanes on the east end of 16th St.![]()
