Bike the Vote in 2010

The San Francisco Bicycle Coalition, as a 501(c)4 organization, endorses candidates and propositions in local elections relating to transportation, land use, and funding. With 11,000 members, the endorsement of the organization is very valuable to candidates, providing high visibility and a pool of active and engaged volunteers. As the endorsement process is underway, the SF Bicycle Coalition seeks a highly qualified Political Intern to work closely with staff and external campaigns to help ensure bike-friendly candidates are elected.
The ideal candidate will have experience in community organizing and working with political campaigns, especially outreach and volunteer coordination. Candidates should posses strong writing skills and a positive attitude to encourage member involvement in campaigns.
Duties:
- Coordinate with campaigns to promote candidates, events and volunteer opportunities to membership
- Schedule and promote SFBC phone-banking nights, including writing call scripts for volunteers
- Utilize SFBC database, social networks, and email advocacy to contact members and encourage volunteerism
- Support campaign efforts, as needed
Skills:
- Strong written and verbal communication
- Basic HTML, e-mail, and internet skills
- Comfort in public speaking and instruction of volunteers
- Familiarity with San Francisco political figures, politics, and neighborhoods
- Familiarity with transportation issues important to SFBC
This internship is expected to take 8-16 hours per week, building toward the November 2010 elections, including evening and weekend hours. The ideal candidate will work closely with SF Bicycle Coalition's Program Manager and candidate campaign staff and will have opportunities to take on a strong leadership role.
Applicants are asked to submit a letter of interest and a resume of relevant work or volunteer experience.
Applications must be received by July 30th, with a start date of early August. Send emails or questions to politicalinternship@sfbike.org. No phone calls, please.
