Bike Summer ’99: Join the Velorution
by Perry Brissette

Organizers of Bike Summer ‘99 have been busy shaping a "velorution" or a "bike party for the world" planned in San Francisco this August.

This unique, month-long, urban bicycle experience has already reached over 40 planned events — including rides, tours, camping trips, and bike film festivals — and more are being added almost daily. There are even a few non-published guerrilla activist events so provocative they can only be advertised by word of mouth. Sound interesting? Then get connected!

The "velorution" — a ‘60s-style blend of bike-centric "happenings" and political activism — will begin and end with Critical Mass rides in San Francisco on July 30th and August 28th. Throughout August events are planned covering nearly every bike enthusiast’s wish list: bridge access events, Angel Island camping trips, urban tours, transportation awareness events, fashion shows, mountain bike rides, bike polo in the park, even bike ballet.

Bike Summer ‘99 has already attracted national attention with advocates from Portland, Chicago, and NYC expected to participate. International enthusiasts in Japan, Europe, and Australia are also showing their support.
