Smorgasboard Compiled by Paul Carroll, Board Secretary
This new feature of the Tube Times will highlight developments and decisions made
at monthly meetings of the SFBC Board of Directors. This report covers developments from the March and April 1999 meetings.
- Two new members have been appointed to the Board to fill vacancies left by Joe Carroll and Paul Dorn. In March, the Board voted to appoint Linda Atkins; in April, Greg Howard. Welcome, Linda and Greg!
- In March, the Board voted to "agree in principle to convert the current SFBC from a 501(c)3 organization to a 501(c)4 organization and simultaneously create a new 501(c)3 entity." The change will allow the SFBC to work on direct lobbying efforts in support of specific candidates and legislation. A vote of the membership will be required to bring this change into effect.
- At the April meeting, the Board voted to endorse a proposed City Charter amendment that would change the organization and mission of the Municipal Transportation Agency to focus more on public transit, pedestrian safety, and promotion of cycling. The amendment was written by a coalition of groups that includes Rescue Muni, SPUR, and the Environmental Organizing Committee.
Minutes of all Board meetings are kept in the SFBC office and may be reviewed by members. Board meetings are open to all SFBC members. Meetings are held the third Tuesday of each month at 26 OÍFarrell St. from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm.
