More than a dozen individuals have been nominated to receive an SFBC Golden Wheel Award for their bold action in the struggle for safer streets and more livable communities. The ceremony will be held August 12th at Fort Mason's Officers' Quarters 4, tucked in a grove of trees with a rare view of Aquatic Park and Alcatraz. (Thanks to the Park Service for granting us special permission to use this space which is not normally open to the public.) A cocktail and hors d'oeuvres party before and after the ceremony will be an opportunity to catch up with other SFBC members and to meet some of the city's bike-positive movers and shakers.

The event is also our most important fund raiser of the year. Half of our 1999 income is projected to come from members in the form of dues ($70,000) and donations ($40,000). Unlike many groups, we ask our members for donations (beyond dues) only once each year, and that's now, in honor of the recipients of the SFBC Golden Wheel Awards. To be recognized in the invitation that will be mailed to every member and other VIPs, call 431-BIKE, x-3.
