Muni Works with Bike Community by Tube Times Staff

After meeting with SFBC representatives, the new Muni General Manager, Michael Burns, has committed to making improvements to better serve bicyclists. Burns recommended the city reverse its policy of omitting bike lane striping in front of bus stops. Realizing these gaps in bike lanes create confusion for cyclists and drivers, Burns, who is a bicyclist himself, will ask the DPT to fill in the gaps. Burns has also requested that the new fleet of buses on order be equipped to accommodate bike racks in the future, an important step toward outfitting all buses with racks, as most Bay Area cities already do. And Muni has committed to improving its safety program, augmenting driver training on sharing the road with bicyclists and pedestrians.
