VALENCIA ST. bike lanes won the SF Bay Guardian's "Best Civic Improvement" award. Accident reports three months before and after bike lane striping show a decrease in accidents (23 vs. 13). No pedestrian accidents occurred during the study period compared with two before. Bicycle accidents increased 88%.

In July, the Dept. of Public Works replaced 126 catch basin street grates with bicycle-friendly grates.
