Effective June 1st, the SFBC has changed its tax status to permit us to have an impact on this year's elections for 11 district Supervisors.

Simultaneously, we've created a new organization, initially called San Francisco Transportation Alternatives (SFTA), which will coordinate the SFBC's educational work with other efforts to improve biking, walking and transit conditions. The new group will accept tax deductible contributions, while donations to the SFBC will no longer be tax deductible.

The SFBC's new dual structure is "great news for San Francisco's alternative transportation and bicycle activism," says Terry Miller, a nonprofit specialist at the firm Silk, Adler, & Colvin who helped shepherd these changes through the IRS bureaucracy.
