Bicyclists in San Francisco can look forward to a more supportive City Hall in the next few years. The new Board of Supervisors, which took office in January, is significantly more enlightened on transportation issues, and supportive of more bicycle improvements.
The SFBC's first-time involvement in making endorsements for elective office and generating volunteers for campaigns paid off tremendously - with eight of our endorsed candidates winning in 11 districts (seven for seven in the runoff race!). All eight of those candidates are bicycle-friendly and share the SFBC's goal of promoting a livable city where people - not cars - come first.
We will still have to work just as hard to mobilize public support for bicycling improvements, but now more than ever we have the chance to transform the city.
