New Bike Lanes On the Way! by Tube Times Staff

Congratulations to SFBC members on the most recent addition to the city's Bicycle Network - bike lanes on Howard Street. The Board of Supervisors approved lanes on Howard Street between 5th and 11th Streets in January. Lanes should be striped within several months.

Many thanks to Supervisor Chris Daly for introducing the legislation and to the hard-working members of the SFBC's South of Market Committee. Next step: Extend the bike lanes from 5th St. to Fremont St.

As of press time, bike lanes on San Jose Ave. seemed likely to pass the Board too, thanks to Supervisor Mark Leno's sponsorship and the SFBC's San Jose Ave. committee volunteers. Other bike lanes in the works include Alemany Blvd. in the Excelsior, Cabrillo Ave. in the Richmond, Fell St. along the Wiggle route, and Market Street improvements (see Quick Releases).
