The SFBC has gained national recognition as one of the country's most effective bicycle advocacy organizations, and our success would not be possible without the incredible support we receive from our community! Last year, more than half of our funding came from our members and donors. Beyond becoming a member of the SFBC, or volunteering your time and talents, the following are some important ways you can help support our work:
BECOME AN SFBC SUSTAINER!
Become an SFBC sustainer by signing up to make an automatic monthly donation of $10 - $1,000. The sustainer program makes it easy for you to support the work of the SFBC on an ongoing basis by spreading your donation out over an entire year.
Got a friend who loves to bike but isn't a member? Give them a gift membership to the SFBC for their birthday or other special occasion!
Thousands of companies have matching gift programs that double the tax-deductible donations made by their employees. Matching gifts should be made to the SFBC through Transportation for a Livable City (TLC), our fiscal sponsor. Ask about your company's matching gift program, and double your giving power!
UNITED WAY & WORKPLACE CAMPAIGNS
You can make a donation to the SFBC through the United Way or similar workplace giving programs. Federal and State employees also have workplace campaigns, so check with your employer. Workplace giving should be made to the SFBC through TLC, our fiscal sponsor.
GIFTS OF STOCK, BONDS, OR REAL ESTATE
You or your company can make a significant gift to the SFBC by donating stock, stock options, and other investments in one simple transaction. A gift of stock owned for more than one year entitles you to a charitable deduction for the full market value at the time the gift is made.
You can make a lasting contribution to the work of the SFBC by naming us as a beneficiary in your will, as a recipient of a portion of your estate, or by establishing a charitable trust.
Are you a corporation looking to invest in your community? The SFBC has many ways for businesses to get involved.
MAKING TAX-DEDUCTIBLE DONATIONS TO THE SFBC
The SFBC is a 501(c)(4) nonprofit organization. Because the SFBC's activities include lobbying of elected officials and endorsing bicycle-friendly candidates, donations made directly to the SFBC are not tax deductible. However, you can make a tax-deductible donation to support our non-legislative efforts through our 501(c)(3) fiscal sponsor, Transportation for a Livable City (TLC). Make your check out to TLC, with "Bike Fund" in the memo line, or when making a credit card donation, indicate that you would like it made through TLC.
