Bike Kitchen Tune-Up class *

This class will meet for three Mondays in September (8th, 15th, and 22nd) and will be limited to 8 people. Class will be hands-on, so bring a bike and get ready to get greasy. Over the 3 weeks, it will cover what is included in a basic shop tune-up: installing and removing tubes and tires (i.e. fixing a flat), installing brake and shift cables, adjusting brakes and gears, chain maintenance, truing wheels, etc. The fee for this class is sliding scale: $40-80 for current Bike Kitchen members or $70-110 for non Bike Kitchen members (although a year-long membership comes with the class). Bike MS: Waves to Wine 25th Anniversary Ride: Day 1 *

The National Multiple Sclerosis Society, Northern California Chapter will hold its annual Bike MS: Waves to Wine Ride from September 13th to 14th to raise more than $1.5 million for critical MS research and vital programs and services. Day 1 goes from SF to Rohnert Park, and you'll be able to fuel up and stay hydrated approximately every 12 miles at rest stops, along with a lunch stop. Each day is 75 miles but will also feature a shorter option of 40-50 mile route for the recreational cyclist as well as a longer century for those who like the challenge. The SFBC is extremely excited to be a part of San Francisco's first truly car-free event: Sunday Streets, which will open up 5 miles of streets for cyclists, pedestrians, children, dog walkers, dancers, skaters and anyone else who wants to use the streets as they have never before — to play! Enjoy open space along Washington Street, the Embarcadero, Terry Francois Blvd. Illinois and 3rd Streets, with the route lined with activities for all to enjoy. Stop by an SFBC Service Station to "fuel-up" on free coffee and snacks, and to meet fellow riders every Friday during October! The SFBC will host Service Stations on bike lanes around San Francisco to spread the bike love, cheer you on, and help you stay energized on Gas Free Fridays through October. Bike Ed - Day One: Street Skills
Sat., Nov. 1 | 10am-2pm, Ella Hill Hutch Community Center, 1050 McAllister St (between Webster and Buchanan)
(Note: date has changed.) This four hour in-classroom courses teach the basics of safe and enjoyable cycling, including riding in traffic, necessary equipment, crash avoidance, and legal rights and responsibilities. Open to adults 14 and over. Bicycle not required, but please bring your lunch. Note: this is the "day 1" course for League of American Bicyclists' Bike Ed Road I certification. Each class is free, but you must register. |
