Meet Hallie, a Bike + BART Commuter from Bernal

Dani Simons, August 17th, 2012

Hallie is a BART commuter, and an SF Bicycle Coalition member, who is appreciating BART’s pilot to allow bikes on-board at all times. Hallie lives in Bernal and works long hours as a Nurse Practitioner in Oakland. Hallie often leaves for work at 7:30 am and doesn’t come home till after 7.

Hallie is a bike commuter from Bernal who needs to take BART to get to and from her job in the East Bay

Because of the bike blackout she has permanently “borrowed” her wife’s bike, so that she can have two, one on each side of the Bay. She bikes from Bernal to the 24th Street/Mission Station, locks up, then BARTs to Lake Merritt, where she stores the second bike in a locker there. She grabs it and bikes to work at one of La Clinica’s health centers. She often needs her wheels during the day as she splits her time between two clinics or sometimes needs to go to another clinic for a meeting.

This Friday Hallie used the pilot to bring her bike with her on BART. If she could bring her bike with her everyday, she’d save time at both ends of her commute, get home faster, and could even give the other bike back to her wife, and help get another San Franciscan riding more often.
