One More Link: A Separated Bike Lane Improving Division Street
Record numbers of people are biking in San Francisco and benefiting from the more than 30 miles of new bike lanes that are being striped across the city. One of these people is Colbert Tse, a web publisher, who uses the new Division Street separated bike lanes.
How are the Division Street separated bike lanes making your commute safer?
The Division Street Bike Lanes have tremendously improved my commute by making it safer and easier to commute from the SOMA area to the Mission. Riding in the separated bike lane reaffirms that I have the right to share and am welcome on the same roadway as vehicles. Before riding on the separated bike lanes on Division, it felt very unsafe because I didn’t have my own dedicated space to ride. I believe that the separated bike lanes will make riding a bike safer for all ages whether you are a seasoned veteran or a novice!
What’s your favorite thing about getting around San Francisco by bike?
My favorite thing about getting around by bike in San Francisco is the fact that it is relatively quick and easy form of transportation to get to places. It beats having to wait for the Muni or having to deal with the stress of rush hour traffic, and the burdens of having to find parking. Also, it’s always a great workout riding a bike in the city with the hills.
What’s your favorite destination to bike to in San Francisco?
My favorite destination to bike to in San Francisco is the Mission District, especially Valencia Street with all the enhancements to the area such as the new wider bike lanes and sidewalks and the parklets which provide great outdoor seating areas. These additions give a sense of community and that the street belongs to the people. I hope that the safety and street improvements that have come to the Mission District will serve as a model of how other neighborhoods in San Francisco can become reinvigorated.
