Announcing Bike To Shop (and Dine) Day on May 23

There are great deals to be had at local businesses around San Francisco on the first annual Bike to Shop Day.

The San Francisco Bicycle Coalition, in celebration of National Bike Month, is supporting local businesses around the city as part of San Francisco’s first Bike To Shop Day on Saturday, May 23.

Like Bike to Work Day, Bike to Shop Day is a one day event that recognizes the growing number of people who are riding bikes to get to more places — including to their local businesses! It’s inspired by the Silicon Valley Bicycle Coalition‘s event launched in 2014 and has gained national attention.

Each participating business will offer a promotion of their choice, highlighted on the event map. Be sure to use #BiketoShop while tagging where you shop and dine, and don’t forget to share your best pictures from the day.

Bike to Shop Day is a great way to discover new businesses or rediscover some of your favorites, all while supporting local businesses that care about biking.

It’s also a great way to showcase the beautiful relationship between bikes and local businesses. Studies in San Francisco and across the country show that people arriving by bike spend more at local businesses than those driving, which keeps more tax revenue and profits in the local economy. Like people walking, people on bikes are much more likely to stop spontaneously to shop at neighborhood businesses.
