2014 Bike-Friendly Business Award Winners

Each year, the San Francisco Bicycle Coalition honors local businesses with our Bike-Friendly Business Awards. More and more employers are recognizing the benefits of biking to their company, and offering incentives and encouragement to get more of their employees rolling to work.

This year’s Bike-Friendly Business Awards were more competitive than ever. Dozens of employees nominated their companies for the award, sending in descriptions of their bike parking, incentives for biking and company’s role in advocating for better biking in their neighborhood.

We are pleased to present the 2014 Bike-Friendly  Business Award recipients. These companies were honored on the steps of City Hall on Bike to Work Day:

Large business: Rackspace

Medium business: Liftopia

Small business: Arizmendi Bakery

Non-Profit: Electronic Frontier Foundation

About this year’s winners:

Rackspace is a cloud storage company that goes above and beyond in encouraging their employees to commute to work safely and comfortably. Rackspace’s 2nd and Folsom office has a massive bike parking room that fits over 60 bikes, lockers, and a repair station for employees. The company also encourages employees to bike through social rides and other benefits, and is San Francisco Bicycle Coalition business member.

Liftopia is a discount ski lift-ticket company with over half of their employees riding to their Kearny Street offices (wow!). Liftopia is also a business member, provides great employee bike parking, encouragement programs, and wellness benefits. Check out Liftopia for you next ski or boarding trip!

Arizmendi Bakery is a worker-owned cooperative bakery with deep roots in the bicycling community. 65% of their employees ride their bikes to work, and as a discount partner, Arizmendi offers discounts to San Francisco Bicycle Coalition members as well as anyone riding a bike! Stop by for a pastry or pizza to redeem your discount!

The Electronic Frontier Foundation is the leading nonprofit organization defending civil liberties in the digital world and a leading bike-friendly nonprofit too. Close to 50% of their employees are already biking to work and EFF supports them with lockers, bike commuter benefits, and biking email lists to connect employees who bike.
