Bridging SF and Oakland by Bike

You can bring your bike on BART, on the ferry or on AC Transit, but there’s nothing quite like making the journey between San Francisco and Oakland by bike alone.

No need to just dream about it. This Wednesday, the first open house for a bicycle and pedestrian path on the Bay Bridge West Span will be held, and you’re invited!

We know you’ve been waiting for this day to come. Oakland’s done their part, and we look forward to celebrating the touchdown of the East Span’s path on Yerba Buena Island later this year. Now, we turn our attention to the West Span and how to bridge the Bay with a bicycle and pedestrian path on San Francisco’s side.

Over the last several months, the internationally-renowned design firm Arup has been working on a variety of technical analyses. They’ll share their initial findings and seek your input at the first public meeting on Wednesday, Jan. 20. We’ll discuss important questions like where the path should land in San Francisco and which side of the West Span bridge the path should be on. If you’re good at 3D visualization, want to dream big and could see yourself biking between San Francisco and Oakland, here’s your chance.
