Margaret McCarthy Named Interim Executive Director

After an expedited, but thorough search and interview process, the board of the San Francisco Bicycle Coalition has selected Margaret McCarthy as the organization’s Interim Executive Director. Margaret has been a dedicated and tireless pillar of the SF Bicycle Coalition’s work in her roles as Volunteer Coordinator and more recently as Program Director. She joined the staff in 2012.

“I am very pleased to announce the board’s selection of Margaret to serve as our Interim Executive Director,” said Lawrence Li, president of the SF Bicycle Coalition’s Board of Directors. “We believe that her positive outlook, deep connection to the organization and her excellent management skills will serve the staff and our members well in this transitional role.”

Margaret’s tenure as Interim Executive Director is expected to last up to six months, while the SF Bicycle Coalition’s board conducts a search for a long-term Executive Director.

“As I’ve thought and talked with folks about taking on this role, I’ve reflected again and again on how strong and committed our staff and members are,” said Margaret. “That strength and commitment are what make the SF Bicycle Coalition such an effective organization, and what excites me most about this opportunity to serve in a new role.”

The staff and board of the San Francisco Bicycle Coalition are grateful to Jean Fraser for stepping down from the Board to serve as Acting Executive Director while the Board recruited for the Interim Executive Director. Jean will remain on staff until Margaret’s elevation to Interim Executive Director on Jan. 11, 2016.
