Thanks for Biking Politely on the Embarcadero!

Did you know over 1,000 people ride bikes on the Embarcadero past the Ferry Building every evening? Whether you’re on the green bike lanes or cruising the multi-use Promenade, our waterfront is a beautiful place to experience by bike.

We hit the streets yesterday as part of our Bike Polite program, a series of outreach events to encourage biking and thank people for biking polite. Last year, we visited the Wiggle, Market Street and the Embarcadero. This year, thanks to support from the SF Municipal Transportation Agency and the Port of San Francisco, we decided to return to the Embarcadero. As part of our outreach and education, we thanked people for slowing down while on the multi-use Promenade. We also thanked those who rode in the green bike lanes for slowing down and stopping before the pedestrian crosswalk. With huge crowds headed to the ballpark to watch the Giants clinch their playoff spot, it’s important that we share these spaces respectfully so that they are welcome and inviting to everyone.

Bike education is also fun and delicious! Thanks to Alter Eco, a bike-friendly business located in Dogpatch, we handed out delicious chocolates to anyone who stopped by our tent. We also heard from you what you love about biking. Here are a couple of our favorites.
