About the Arthritis Foundation’s work in the Bay Area: 

The Arthritis Foundation of Northern California has a great local impact. It funds four competitive research and medical fellowships – two at UCSF and two at Stanford – to address the shortage of pediatric and adult rheumatologists nationwide. It also founded Camp Milagros for children and teens with arthritis. Camp Milagros and Teen Retreat are for kids and teenagers who have juvenile arthritis. Camp Milagros was founded in 2002 by a group of dedicated volunteers to provide sleep away camps for kids that otherwise would be turned away from camp because of their juvenile arthritis. Camp Milagros is medically supervised by pediatric rheumatologists, rheumatology nurses or other healthcare professionals who are available on-site, 24 hours a day to address the special needs that these kids have while giving them a great camp experience.
