Join us at Sunday Streets this Sunday, and All Summer

This Sunday, March 8, marks the kickoff of the 2015 season of Sunday Streets. The San Francisco Bicycle Coalition is a proud supporter of Sunday Streets, a summer-long series of free open streets events that encourage recreation, community activities and fun in neighborhoods across San Francisco.

Inspired by the Ciclovía events in Bogotá, Columbia, the SF Bicycle Coalition helped launch Sunday Streets in 2008; the program is now run entirely by a separate nonprofit, Livable City. This year’s first event will be held along the gorgeous Embarcadero, where streets will be open for all to bike, walk, dance, jump and run. (Find more information about the event and view the full route map here.)

Here are four great ways you can say hi to your friends at the SF Bicycle Coalition while you’re checking out the event:

  • Bring your little ones to Freedom from Training Wheels. Our free workshop will help teach your little one to balance, scoot and pedal without training wheels. Drop by any time between 11AM and 3PM. Near Pier 7
  • Test ride a family bike. Talk to our Family Biking experts about biking with your baby, toddler or child, and see equipment up close at Sunday Streets. Want to start riding with your kids? Try out some options and see what works for your family.  Children welcome (naturally)! Near Pier 7
  • Swing by our Service Station for a membership discount and more! Join or renew as an SF Bicycle Coalition member this Sunday and you’ll enjoy a special discounted rate of $25 for a year’s membership. (That’s $10 off our usual annual membership rate!) Plus, find out more about the future of biking along the Embarcadero from our outreach volunteers. Near Pier 7
  • Learn about the blind spots of large vehicles at our Large Vehicle Safety Outreach activity. Find out how to be aware and be safe when sharing the road with oversize vehicles. Bryant and Brannan

If you’d like to volunteer with us at any of the above programs, be sure to check out our volunteer page for more information and to sign up!
