Last Friday evening at around 9PM, Donald “DJ” Pinkerton-DeVito was tragically killed while biking after colliding with a SFPD police cruiser in McLaren Park, near the intersection of Persia Avenue and Sunnydale Avenue. The SF Bicycle Coalition extends its most sincere and deepest condolences to DJ’s family, friends and community.

The SF Bicycle Coalition is following the current SF Police Department and District Attorney investigation closely. We urge the SFPD and the District Attorney to ensure that the investigation is comprehensive and fair. Every single factor that contributed to DJ’s tragic death must be identified; his friends and family deserve the full and complete story.

Over the coming months, we will continue working with the SFMTA, Department of Public Works and Recreation & Parks Department to accelerate implementation of already approved projects like the McLaren Park Mansell Corridor Improvements and to identify additional enhancements that can be quickly implemented to activate the park and eliminate serious injuries and fatalities.
