"The bicycle is the most civilized conveyance known to man. Other forms of transport grow daily more nightmarish. Only the bicycle remains pure in heart."
THIS WEEKEND: COME CELEBRATE A SAFER POTRERO AVENUE
By now we hope you've been out riding on those fine new Potrero Avenue bike lanes, from 17th Street down past SF General Hospital. We're hearing lots of cheers and hoorays, from cyclists and pedestrians and patients and caregivers and even a few motorists, and we agree, that crazy street seems a lot more civilized now. So let's celebrate, give thanks and remembrance -- Saturday, August 13th, join us at noon for a dedication at the SFGH Comfort Garden (Potrero and 22nd St., northeast corner) of a memorial for Elizabeth Dominguez, killed in 2003 at the age of four on the sidewalk at 24th and Potrero, followed by a look at / ride on the lanes, and onwards to Potrero del Sol Park (a.k.a. "Raza Park", Potrero between 25th St. and Cesar Chavez) for a celebration of a safer neighborhood starting at 12:30.
The party's always better when everyone pitches in -- let us know if you will bring the cookies and/or lemonade, or you will be bringing the garbage bags and broom -- contact Andy Thornley at 431-BIKE x 307 or firstname.lastname@example.org and we'll put it all together!
