How much do you love Sunday Streets?
Half of all Bike Plan Projects are on the Ground
Nearly two years ago today, SF Bicycle Coalition volunteers and members celebrated the return of new bike lanes being striped on streets in neighborhoods across the city. Thanks to all the members who helped bring support for those changes in 2009 after countless meetings and hours of community outreach. Today, we are proud of the SFMTA for striping half of the 34 miles of new bike lanes called for in the Bike Plan.
Pedal Through the Redwoods, Support the SF Bicycle Coalition
We have the best way for you and your friends to enjoy an incredible 5-day, fully-supported bicycle ride in Northern California while supporting the San Francisco Bicycle Coalition at the same time! The Climate Ride -- the nation's largest environmental cycling event and "green conference on wheels," this October 2-6, from Eureka to San Francisco.
Celebrate Biking in the City with Bike Happy Hour
Hot child in the city! Celebrate biking in the city with the SF Bicycle Coalition with Bike Happy Hours. Every Thursday in July from 5-7pm the SF Bicycle Coalition will be out celebrating biking by showing gratitude to people riding their bikes with fun treats. Want to be part of the Happy Hours as a Bicycle Ambassador and be the reason for smiles on the faces of your fellow bicycle riders? Email Tessa if you're a trained Bicycle Ambassador and want to sign up for a Thursday (or Thursdays!) in July from 5-7pm.
Volunteer When Sunday Streets Returns to Ocean Beach
Sunday Streets returns to the Great Highway and Golden Gate Park on July 10 and the best way to enjoy the event is as a volunteer. It takes literally hundreds of people like you to help make Sunday Streets possible. Be a Sunday Streets hero and volunteer. Here are four ways you can help make Sunday Streets a huge success:
Volunteers Are Super Heroes(ines) -- Get Your Cape On
Accept the challenge to chat up the SF Bicycle Coalition! Join the volunteers who keep the SF Bicycle Coalition membership strong. No cold-calling, just calls to friendly lapsed members offering an easy way to renew. Join us Wednesday, July 6, from 5-8pm at the SF Bicycle Coalition HQ, 833 Market St., Floor 10. Plan to stay for the thank-you dinner afterward and get to know your fellow volunteers. You must be a current or former member to volunteer. Email firstname.lastname@example.org to sign up or for more information.
Help Plan the Future of Bikes on BART
In 2002 BART created its first Bicycle Access and Bicycle Parking Plan. Now almost ten years later, thanks to a Caltrans grant, the plan is being updated. A lot has changed in ten years -- for example, the percentage of riders using a bicycle as part of their BART trip has almost doubled, BART offers more options for parking bicycles (including Bike Stations at the Embarcadero, Fruitvale, Downtown Berkeley and Ashby stations) and they're in the process of adding up to 1,000 new electronic bike lockers at 25 stations. Some things have stayed the same, too -- it's still a priority to accommodate bicycles on trains whenever possible and to provide safe, secure bike parking when you can't take your bike on BART.
Now Hiring: Communications Director
