DUMP THE GG BRIDGE BIKE/PED TOLL
If you think that bicyclists and pedestrians should be encouraged -- not discouraged -- to use people-power rather than polluting & congesting auto-power to cross the Golden Gate Bridge, you're not alone. We've been hearing from tons of people, bicyclists and non-bicyclists alike, who think that this proposal to charge cyclists and pedestrians $1 toll to cross the Bridge would have a negative effect on the Bay Area's environment, public health, and traffic congestion.
TAKE ACTION TODAY at our Instant Activist webpage at http://www.sfbike.org, where you can add your voice to the debate in fewer than 5 minutes.
POTRERO BIKE LANES & TRAFFIC CALMING FINALLY MOVING FORWARD
Congratulations to dozens of neighbors and SFBC members who've worked steadily for the past year (some for many years) to slow the car traffic on Potrero Avenue and to add more livable streets components, including new bike lanes. This proposal is finally moving forward through the official city approval process, starting with a public hearing this Friday, February 25th at 10am at City Hall, Room 416. We're asking residents of the area to come and briefly express their support for traffic calming and bike lanes on Potrero. If you can make it, or have any questions, please contact Leah at email@example.com
If you can't make it, but support the proposal, please send an email to the Department of Parking & Traffic (DPT) at Livable.Streets@sfgov.org. To find out more about the details of the project, see the DPT's website at http://www.sfgov.org/site/dpt_index.asp?id =26843
14TH ST. BIKE LANE HEARING TONIGHT (WEDNESDAY) NIGHT
Please come and chime in on the community dialogue around the 14th St. bike lane planned for the block between Market and Dolores. This important meeting -- tonight at 6pm at Castro Community Room at 501 Castro St. @ 18th St.-- was initiated by Supervisor Dufty's office in order to address questions by various merchants and residents about the plan to close the gap in the 14th St. bike lane between Market and Dolores. For more information about this project, see http://www.sfbike.org/bikeplan_14th

Bring your ideas this Thursday, February 24th, 6:30-8:30pm, at Mission Police Station, on Valencia @ 17th St. If you can't make the meeting, but have input, email Livable.Streets@sfgov.org

SFBC OPPOSES PROPOSED MUNI FARE HIKE! JOIN THE GROWING CHORUS AND SPEAK OUT AT MONDAY'S MTA MTG
Stop Muni's Proposed Fare Hike! Last week, the SFBC board voted to oppose the proposed fare hikes and service cuts, and instead urge Muni to look to other revenue sources to fill the budget gap. Please join us at Monday's 2pm MTA meeting at City Hall to support a livable city by ensuring that transit is accessible and affordable. For some background: On February 28th, the Metropolitan Transportation Agency is expected to pass a budget that will raise bus fares to $1.50 and Fast Passes to $54. Members of the public have offered plenty of ideas for raising revenue without adding to the burden on poor and working San Franciscans - by making downtown businesses and car drivers pay their fair share. But the politicians won't listen unless bus riders show them that we won't let them balance their budget on thier backs. For more background, see http://www.livablecity.org/
HELPERS NEEDED TO DELIVER TUBE TIMES
A few people are needed to help deliver the Tube Times to the Post Office every other month. Tube Times deliveries are made to the Bayview Post Office on the Thursday morning after the Wednesday Tube Times folding party night. This month it will be on March 24th. We meet at 9:30am at the SFBC office, load up the trailers and are usually back by noon. We supply the trailers so all you need is a bike and legs. Personal trailers and extracycles welcome. If you are interested in helping, please contact Tim Shea at email@example.com
