SF "Bike to School" Training at Sunday Streets: Embarcadero

Want to feel more confident in leading or having your child participate in a "Bike Train" from home to school and back? In preparation for the SF Bike to School Day, this 2.5 hour session offers families and youth an opportunity to improve confidence and safety on the road. The training will empower parents with bicycle helmet fitting, safety checks, skill building drills and group riding. Youth under 18 must be accompanied by a participating parent and all are required to bring their own bicycles and helmets in good condition. It is especially important that all adult riders "role model" proper helmet usage for youth participants. Pre-register at www.sfbiketoschoolday.org

Bike Maintenance Class: Your Bicycle Wheel *

SF Bicycle Coalition Rec Ride: Family Golden Gate Bridge Ride

Sun., Mar. 21 | 10:30am | Ride will depart from and return to Little Marina Green, located just west of the Ft. Mason parking lot, corner of Marina Blvd and Buchanan

Join SF Bicycle Coalition member Tim Hurley on a family ride traversing Marina Green and Chrissy Field, then through the Presidio to the Golden Gate Bridge. The return trip follows the same course, so those who wish to visit the Discovery Museum can separate from the group and return on their own. Walking bikes up the hills is encouraged! Due to distance and hills, this ride is recommended for kids on 16" bikes and above, and not recommended for training wheels.

Free Urban Cycling Workshop: Intro to Safe Cycling For Self-identified Women Only (Day 1)

In the spirit of empowering female riders and International Women's Month, the SFBC is proud to offer this full bike education course for self-identified women only, taught by a female instructor. Students must be 18 years of age or older - please bring ID for age verification purposes. This four-hour in-classroom, introductory course is perfect for new cyclists and those want to feel more comfortable riding on city streets. Class will cover the basics for how to choose the right bike and properly fit a helmet. Learn tips for the safest ways to ride in traffic, techniques to avoid or deal with road hazards and emergency maneuvers along with other useful gems of knowledge, like the best way to lock up your bike and how to use a bike in combination with public transit, and cyclists' legal rights and responsibilities. SFBC Treehouse Talk: Riding the Iron Curtain Trail

Michael Cramer, avid bicyclist and Green Party Member of the European Parliament, will tell of his travels (and his recent book) on the Iron Curtain Trail. For almost half a century, Europe was divided into East and West by the "Iron Curtain" — the Iron Curtain Trail invites people to retrace and experience this former division of the continent on a 4,400-mile cycle track from the Barents Sea to the Black Sea along the former western border of the Warsaw Treaty States, combining European culture, history and sustainable tourism. The trail extends along the borders of 20 states in Europe — 14 of them are now member states of the European Union (for more info, see this article on the Iron Curtain Trail in the NY Times).

Ecological History (south) Bike Tour *

This trip through San Francisco's lost sand dunes, ponds, creeks and coastline will focus on the city south of downtown and SOMA, traversing the Mission, Mission Bay, Potrero Hill, Bayview, and the southeast coastline, including several new public parks. It's a social, historical and critical 4-hour tour through the city's ecological past and present.

SF Bicycle Advisory Committee meeting *

YBike Moonlight Ride*

SF Bicycle Coalition Rec Ride: Art, Om, and Fortune Cookies

SF Bicycle Coalition members and local artists Erin Augustine and Colleen Mauer are leading an exciting ride pairing San Francisco's best outdoor sculpture spots with fortunes and yoga. Ride will include a mini tour of the Golden Gate Fortune Cookie Factory, fortune sharing in a secret garden and yoga poses to offer some peaceful relaxation after all that pedaling. Don't forget your camera, a sketch pad, and a thermos of your favorite tea. Om!

Free Urban Cycling Workshop: Intro to Safe Cycling (Day 1)

Sun., May. 9 | 10:00am - 2:00pm | Presidio YMCA, Letterman Gym (1152 Gorgas Ave)

This four-hour in-classroom, introductory course is perfect for new cyclists and those want to feel more comfortable riding on city streets. Class will cover the basics for how to choose the right bike and properly fit a helmet. Learn tips for the safest ways to ride in traffic, techniques to avoid or deal with road hazards and emergency maneuvers along with other useful gems of knowledge, like the best way to lock up your bike and how to use a bike in combination with public transit, and cyclists' legal rights and responsibilities. Adults and anyone over 14 years of age are welcome, preregistration is required. Bring your lunch or dinner. No bicycle is needed for this class. Sign up at sfbike.org/edu. Note: This class is the "day 1" course for League of American Bicyclists' Bike Ed Road I certification.
