SF Bike to School Week – Event Planning Internship
Gain professional event planning, logistics and production experience while executing San Francisco's annual Bike to School Week!
The San Francisco Bicycle Coalition is a 12,000-member non-profit organization that works to promote bicycling for everyday transportation and is an active member of the San Francisco Safe Routes to School Partnership.
The San Francisco Bicycle Coalition is the primary organizer for San Francisco's Bike to School Week, Thursday, April 22-26, 2013 and can provide you with the opportunity to help execute this growing and amazing citywide event. This is an great opportunity for a "people person" seeking practical experience in Event Production and Community Outreach.
Supervising yearly poster contest judging and processing of artwork
Event Outreach to schools across San Francisco and distribution of promotional materials
Support delivery of 2 School Organizer meetings (March and April)
Coordinating logistics for the building of incentive materials (rider bags) and execution of bag stuffing party for 3000-4000 rider bags.
Scheduling and ensuring pick-up of supplies and equipment at 40+ participating school sites.
Providing clear and concise logistical details to staff and volunteers.
Updating 2013 Google map of participating schools.
Support planning and logistics for 3 on-bike trainings in March.
Support planning and executing logistics for mini press conference school assemblies at one school in each supervisory district including planning and logistics for citywide media event at one school.
Collect media stories/mentions and support collection of final participant counts.
The ideal candidate will:
Be available to work and average of 15 hours/week from January through April.
Be able to easily travel to different sites within San Francisco as a part of the internship
Be highly organized
Speak multiple languages: English/Spanish, English/Cantonese/Mandarin preferred.
Have some relevant events planning, logistics or production experience
Have experience and interest in working with a diverse range of people on a daily basis
Be a creative and motivated self-starter
Be able to handle multiple tasks at once and meet deadlines/arrive on time
Have excellent attention to detail
Demonstrate passion for creating a better city & be familiar with bicycle issues
Have excellent oral and written skills
Be able to ride a bicycle, haul a bicycle trailer, and lift at least 50lbs.
Be computer-literate and Internet savvy, with direct experience in using MS Office (Excel, Word), Google apps (Docs, Calendar, Gmail), and experience with databases, including Salesforce. HTML is a plus

This unpaid internship offers a flexible schedule with a 15-20 hours a week minimum commitment. Early morning and weekend availability is helpful and you will work at school sites across the city as well as our office located in downtown San Francisco. This position runs from February-April.
