Gain professional event planning, communications and production experience while executing San Francisco's annual Bike to School Week!
The San Francisco Bicycle Coalition is a member-based non-profit organization that works to promote bicycling for everyday transportation and is an active member of the San Francisco Safe Routes to School Partnership.
The San Francisco Bicycle Coalition is the primary organizer for San Francisco's Bike to School Week, April 21-25, 2014. Beginning in January 2014, this intership provides you with the opportunity to help promote and execute this amazing citywide Family Biking event. This is an great opportunity for a social media mastermind and a "people person" seeking practical experience in Event Production and Community Outreach.
This unpaid internship offers a flexible schedule with a 10-20 hours a week minimum commitment. Early morning and some weekend availability is helpful. You will work at school sites across the city as well as our office located in downtown San Francisco. This position runs through April.
Write and edit social media, newsletter and other online marketing to promote raffles, encouragement activities and event participation
Assist with direct outreach to schools across San Francisco, and with distribution of promotional materials
Help recruit and engage participants for pre-event activities January through April, including two Bike Champion/School Organizer meetings and three bike safety or on-road workshops
Produce short Bike Champion profiles in video or photo/interview to highlight the program online and through other communication venues
Coordinate logistics for the building of incentive materials (rider bags) and bag stuffing party for 3000-4000 rider bags. Schedule and ensure distribution of supplies and equipment at 40+ participating school sites.
Provide clear and concise logistical details to staff and volunteers; Update 2014 Google map and other event instructions to participating schools.
Followup at school sites through various channels and use Salesforce database to track communications and participation
Support planning and execution logistics for one mini media event/school assembly for each supervisory district and citywide media event at one school.
Support collection of final participant counts, photos and event stories; collect media stories/mentions
The ideal candidate will possess:
Strong interest and some relevant experience in event organizing, production, community outreach and/or marketing
Excellent online communication and in-person skills
Strong writing, editing and research skills, computer-literate and Internet savvy, with direct experience in using MS Office (Excel, Word), Google apps (Docs, Calendar, Gmail). Experience with databases, including Salesforce. HTML is a plus
Strong multi-tasking and organizational skills, timeliness, flexibility, attention to detail
Ability to easily travel to different sites within San Francisco
Bilingual skill in Chinese/English or Spanish/English or other language a big plus.
Experience and interest in working with a diverse range of people on a daily basis
Be a creative and motivated self-starter
