Mark your calendar: Friday, September 19!
It's time to roll out the sod and pull out the lawn chairs for PARK(ing) Day on Friday, Sept. 19th. PARK(ing) Day is
an international one-day event that calls all artists, activists, and citizens together to take over parking
spots and turn them into temporary public parks. Not only does it make us rethink the way streets are used,
but it calls attention to the need for more green space in our urban environments.

Last year San Francisco had 58 PARK(ing) spots. Where would you most like to see a PARK? Contact Neal to join the SFBC in sprinkling Parks around the city in the name of better bicycling.
PARK(ing) Day 2007
On Friday, September 21, artists, activists, and citizens collaborated to transform parking spots into temporary public parks all over the city. PARK(ing) Day rethinks the way our streets are used, calls attention to the need for urban parks, and improves the quality of urban human habitat... at least until the meter runs out!

Thanks to Nate Rotsko and friends for organizing the Beach Party PARK(ing) spot (and Jason for the photo).
Thursday, September 21, 2006 was also World Car-Free Day, as we sought and celebrated car-free public space in the city even more than we usually would. We worked on or loafed in PARK(ing) interventions all over town — here's an interactive map of some of the locations.

We have photos of the PARK(ing) spots we saw, but please let us know of yours.
