Bike to Work Day 2008 Recap

The day's festivities began in the wee hours of Thursday, May 15, and lasted well into the evening as SFBC member-volunteers cheered on tens of thousands of riders at 25 Energizer Stations sprinkled around the city.

Volunteers handed out tasty treats and cups of joe to energize bikers-by, as well as 4,500 reusable collectible Bike to Work Day bags. Supervisors Peskin, Daly, Elsbernd, Mirkarimi, McGoldrick, Dufty, Sandoval, and Chu, MTA CEO Nathaniel Ford, Planning Director John Rahaim, Department of Public Works Director Ed Reiskin, and City Treasurer Jose Cisneros all rolled into City Hall for the press conference where the SFBC unveiled the second Report Card for Bicycling in San Francisco.

Bike to Work Day 2008 was also another record-breaking SFBC membership drive! A grand welcome goes out to the over 750 SFBC members who joined and renewed. These new members grow our coalition to over 9,000 members strong! The SFBC staff and Board of Directors would like to thank the 300+ member-volunteers for their stellar job in making Bike to Work Day a smashing success!
