San Jose Avenue Survey and Evaluation Begins

Biking from Glen Park and the Outer Mission to the Inner Mission is a much safer and pleasant experience thanks to the recent San Jose Avenue improvements, which are the result of years of advocacy by community groups and City champions.

As the project timeline moves forward, the SFMTA announced last week the first official evaluation period, scheduled for the second week of September. Preliminary observations indicate the changes are by and large working as expected, with some encroachment observed on the bike lane by motorists between Milton St. and Mary’s Avenue.

In addition to the field observations, the SFTMA is also interested in getting feedback from people using the upgraded bike lane. Do you feel safer biking on San José Avenue through the Bernal Cut? Do you feel specific locations along the route need more protection or signage? Take their survey to let them know and help make this pilot project a success!

Finally, don’t forget to share your enthusiasm for the project with City leaders like Supervisor Wiener, whose support helped make this project a reality.
