The San Francisco Bicycle Coalition is proud to be the leading resource in San Francisco for youth and family biking. Through our partnerships with City and community organizations, we help families and kids get “rolling” and work to make biking safe and accessible for kids of all ages, from toddlers to teenagers. Sign up for our Youth and Family newsletter.
San Francisco has the largest bike to school event in the country, and 2015’s Bike & Roll to School Week is April 20-24. Rolling, whether by scooter, skateboard or bus means that all students are included. Schools from across the city choose the best day to participate in the big event. Join the thousands of San Francisco youth who will pedal and roll their way to school! Sign-ups are now open for the April event. Be sure to enter the Bike & Roll to School Week parent raffle for a chance to win an Xtracycle EdgeRunner family bike with electric pedal-assist– for free!
The SF Bicycle Coalition teaches free Family Biking Workshops and classes for all stages of family biking — from biking while pregnant to biking your child to school. We also host Freedom From Training Wheels workshops at every Sunday Streets to teach the littlest ones to bike without training wheels. In addition, you can test ride a family bicycle and talk to our experts about biking with children and equipment options at our ongoing Sunday Streets events.
Children who walk and bike to school arrive energized and ready to learn. The San Francisco Bicycle Coalition is a partner organization in San Francisco Safe Routes to School, working to make biking and walking to school safer, easier and more fun for students and their families. Safe Routes to School is expanding to serve all SF Unified School District elementary schools.
The San Francisco Bicycle Coalition offers this free how-to manual for all stages of family biking. The guide includes practical information for all ages from Biking While Pregnant onward; and advice about equipment, safety, and the rules of the road. Download English, Spanish and Chinese versions and discover the joys of quality family time together on a bike.
